Kirtan Kriya is one of the original and evergreen powerhouse meditations Yogi Bhajan taught as a way to make it through this transition period on the planet. And we can all agree we are participating in a very interesting sea change that is necessary but also takes a bit of grit and grace to navigate.

Now more than ever before it is essential we find a way to clear and clean the subconscious mind (daily!) to have clarity and freedom of choice in a world competing for our time, attention and energy.

Cue Kirtan Kriya. This meditation, in the words of Yogi Bhajan, “brings a total mental balance to the individual psyche.” In a world where balance is often more pipe dream than reality, this is a true soul food. I can tell you from experience how grounding, calming, and even up-leveling this practice is.

The last time I did a 40 day series of it, my life transformed and blossomed. I was just at the beginning of teacher training and opportunities started to pop up all over the place. My sleep improved. My mood improved. People starting to as me what kind of cream I used on my face because it looked so radiant. And I told everyone who asked…it was Kirtan Kriya.

What’s more, research has been done on the practice showing it’s an excellent (and free!) preventative technology for Alzheimer’s Disease. You can learn more about that research here and read the white paper here.

The great part about this meditation is it’s easy to practice daily. It goes by quickly with it’s different component parts of chanting, and it makes you feel good - something that always inspires me to keep it up.

Here are more of the logistical details:

  • The meditation start to finish takes a little over 12 minutes (but the active part is about 11).

  • It requires a bit of chanting while simultaneously moving your thumbs across the pad of each finger.

  • You can follow along with me on YouTube (intro video here) or practice by yourself using this timed (and beautiful) recording.

  • Yeah, that’s kind of it. I told you it was easy.

As part of this practicing community I’ll share updates and information with you every few days for inspiration but also feel free to follow along and post your progress on instagram using the tag #40daysofkirtankriya

I look forward to starting this journey with you!

Sat Nam.
