I DON’T TEACH
From a high horse of perfection. I don’t teach to chase power or glory or Instagram likes.
*
I don’t teach to be Wonder Woman or pretend I can do it all. I don’t teach to bossily tell people what to do. I don’t teach to flatter myself and stoke my own ego.
*
I teach for the quiet moments of gratitude. For the radiant faces of transformation I have the honor to witness. I teach because there’s a song inside me I have to share.
*
I teach because I feel fully alive when I do. My cells are energized, my mind is focused, my higher self is aligned.
*
With no one, with one person, or with hundreds of people. I am here to teach from my heart. For the benefit of my own conscious evolution. And perhaps, for some small positive reverberation through the world.

I AM GRATEFUL:
For this fairy moss I stumbled upon while walking the pup.
*
For 6:30 am wake ups from my nephew Abe sneaking stealthily in my bed and wanting me to come play.
*
For the opportunity to teach what I love every day.
*
For healing resources that are coming when I need them most.
*
For mother-in-laws who drop everything to help in a new floor tile we ordered arrived shattered “emergency.”
*
For reverence toward myself and my breath.
*
For building new things and releasing old, stale ones.
*
For the magic of reading and the lessons of inspiring words.
*
For the angels - among us and above us.
*
For this day. Thank you, I am grateful.
A friendship blessing, by John O’Donohue:
•
May you be blessed with good friends.
May you learn to be a good friend to yourself.
May you be able to journey to that place in your soul where there is great love, warmth, feeling and forgiveness.
May this change you.
May it transfigure that which is negative, distant, or cold in you.
May you be brought to the real passion, kinship, and affinity of belonging.
May you treasure your friends.
May you be good to them and may you be there for them;
May they bring you all the blessings, challenges, truth, and light that you need for your journey.
May you never be isolated.
May you always be in the gentle nest of belonging with your anam cara.
****
On this new moon and Chinese New Year, it’s a beautiful time to remember those soul friends who make life so much brighter. Thank you for being a friend.
SET A VISION for your HEALTH:
*
What if you woke up every morning in a state of perfect health. What would it look like? Feel like? Sound like?
*
Would you feel radiant? Energized? Would it look like rising before dawn? Or savoring your delicious (and healthy) food?
*
How would you behave differently in this state of your highest well-being?
*
Today our creativity challenge is about exactly that. Setting a vision for what health actually looks like for YOU. Where our attention goes, energy flows. Wouldn’t it be great to send energy to this vision?

{ the power of prayer }
*
I grew up on Hail Marys and Baruch Atahs. Any sort of prayer or blessing was wrote. Memorized like a multiplication timestable. Detached and industrialized in feeling.
*
To be honest, it wasn’t until a few years ago I began to try out some actual conversations with the Divine. Talking as one might to a wise friend. And when I did, it changed everything...

NEVER WASTE A GOOD CRISIS
*
This phrase, attributed to Winston Churchill, is one of my all time favorites.  In this way we take everything that comes towards us - every grace, every challenge, and every neutrality all in stride.
*
I invite you to consider as you continue your creative endeavors, what is the "crisis" at hand. Maybe it's a tiny one. Maybe it's a medium-sized one. Maybe it's shaking the foundation of your whole life.
*
Whatever it may be, how can you use it as fuel for the journey? How can it somehow feed/inspire/guide the direction of your life?
*
I think back to the true crises I've faced - my father's stroke 6 years ago, our friend's son dying suddenly last May, and other issues both personal and more public. Each of these tough times have had lessons in them. Did I wish for these tough lessons? Absolutely not. But have they served as valuable guides for my own path of awakening? Yes. Heavens, yes.
*
In life, we can feel as if we're getting constantly beat down, or that the events occurring are all conspiring to help us evolve. It's a subtle mind-shift that changes everything.
*
So, how will you ensure you're not wasting your current crisis?
PROTECT THIS HEART
*
In the window of the eclipse, protect this heart from fear of failure.
*
Protect this heart from the myth of its confusion.
*
Protect this heart from self-sabotage or self-animosity.
*
Protect this heart with a forceful desire to love itself, honor itself, and revere itself.
*
Protect this heart from self-indulgence by sharing that love, honor, and reverence with the larger tribe.
*
Protect this heart from the pitfalls of comparison. Remind her that she is her own unique beat, expression, and wisdom.
*
Protect this heart from the belief that it’s already been done before.
*
Protect this heart from the belief that it is anything but God in form. Creative energy manifested. And the key to saving myself and the world.

“When it's over, I want to say all my life
I was a bride married to amazement.
I was the bridegroom, taking the world into my arms.
When it's over, I don't want to wonder
if I have made of my life something particular, and real.
I don't want to find myself sighing and frightened,
or full of argument.
I don't want to end up simply having visited this world.”
•
Dear Mary Oliver, you did so much more than simply visit. You left a stamp on my heart and the hearts of many others with your wise, wild words. Thank you, I bow to you in honor you queen of observation and master crafstwoman of words. Akal ❤️✨🙏🏽

40 DAYS OF CREATIVITY:

Simply put, we are all either creating or destroying in this game called life. In a technological world of great pressure and stress, consistent creativity is a beautiful rebellion.

In my own experience, I’m ready to use the momentum of this new year to commit to creativity through writing, every day, for 40 days. Where are you hungry to create?

In the kitchen?
On the piano?
On an easel?
With your camera?

We begin a community-wide challenge of 40 days of consistent creativity this Monday, January 21st. Learn more at the link in my bio and stay tuned for Instagram updates + stories.

If you are joining, leave a note below on what creative project you’ll be working on through the 40 days.

Random acts of gratitude || What we appreciate appreciates. It is a beautiful universal law that - like so many lessons - can only be truly believed by experience. Here are a few things I’m thankful for today:
•
Walking in to the @redhendc last night sans reservation at 7:30 and immediately getting seated for our first date night in weeks.
•
Florence and the Machine.
•
Old friends coming to visit soon.
•
The way Theo loves to snuggle his little muzzle into the nook of my foot for a nap.
•
New corporate clients truly interested in helping staff release anxiety through meditation.
•
The beauty of falling in love with what you already have - again.
•
Women who support other women with kindness and generosity.
•
The power of prayer.
•
Mantras like Ajai Alai that release negativity and help cultivate radiance.
•
The ability to teach what I love in various capacities.
•
The many wonderful people working to change themselves first in order to change the world.

Your turn: what are you grateful for today?
