Sweet Synchronicity

I recently finished reading a beautiful book which - among many things - spoke to the interconnection of all of us. I have been pondering those synchronous moments - the right place, right time, aligned almost psychic connections to others, and the meet-cutes that remind us there is some sort of positive invisible force helping and guiding.

Then the other day, I experienced a moment so sweet and synchronous I had to share.

My childcare help had just left and due to some landscaping work we’re having done my hubby called and asked if I could knock on the neighbor’s door to see if it was OK to access their backyard.

Honestly, I was a little annoyed as this meant I’d have to bundle up and stroll baby, myself, and my pup (simply because the look pup gives me when we leave him home for a walk is unbearable), and stroll to this person’s house.

While it’s not a terribly far walk, due to the organization of the streets it’s not just next door, it’s down a ways and up and around another culdesac.

I decided a walk was worth a try and if it all went south - with squirrel chasing and and baby crying, “mama, hold ya!” - I could bail.

Luckily, things were going well.

After a few minutes of walking, an older man I had not yet met flagged us down as he walked down his driveway. He motioned to our pup - “are you missing another dog?”

Turns out, he had found a little beagle wandering around his house and it was now in his backyard. The older man was sweet but clearly didn’t know what to do with him: “he’s running around and having a ball back there but I have no idea how to get him to come to me and check his collar.”

I suggested trying a piece of food. Then we spoke a little more about the day, the neighborhood. I knew I needed to forge ahead on my mission but something told me to stay - just a little bit longer.

I did. It was a kind exchange and I was glad for it. Especially for the warnings of the neighborhood chatterboxes: “bring your earmuffs if you ever meet this neighbor. You’ll need ‘em!” It was sweet and hilarious.

Eventually - a small black car started to come down the street and I told him we better be going. As I pushed stroller back to the other side of the road I waved and yelled back - “nice to meet you... and good luck with the beagle!”

A moment later a young teenage boy poked his head out of the back of the car driving by - “beagle?! Did you say beagle...That’s our dog!”

Synchronous mission accomplished. We smiled and went on our merry way. Thinking all the while about how amazing it all was. How that older man probably wouldn’t have stopped me if he didn’t see another dog. How perfect the timing was of getting a toddler into his cold-weather gear (a process).

And while the neighbor we initially set out to speak with wasn’t home, I’m certain we were out and about to rescue a sweet little beagle that day.

We are all connected, I pray we remember the constellation of these connections runs deep and wide.
